Criminal proceedings launched into mass poisoning of students in a school in Kamchatka Territory

Kamchatka Territory investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have initiated a criminal case over mass poisoning of students of school № 9 in the town of Yelizovo. The case was opened over signs of a crime under part 1 of article 238 of the RF Criminal Code (rendering services which do not meet safety requirements).

According to investigators, in the evening of 31 October 2012, 12 students aged between 7 and 15, who had eaten the food cooked in the school kitchen, were delivered to infectious disease ward of Yelizovo district hospital with diagnosis of acute enteric infection and acute gastroenteritis.

Investigators examined the incident scene in the school and seized all necessary documents. In addition the employees of Federal Service for Supervision of Consumers Protection and Welfare for the Kamchatka Territory took day-long samples of food from the school kitchen and examined the personnel.

At present a number of investigating operations are under way to establish all the circumstances of the incident and persons involved in it. Investigation is to be continued.
