Yevgenia Vasilyeva charged with fraud placed under house arrest

Court has satisfied the petition of the Main Military Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee to place Yevgenia Vasilyeva, former Chief of Property Relations Department, Ministry of Defense, under a house arrest as a pretrial restraining measure.

Earlier as part of the investigation over swindling in selling real estates, lands and shares owned by OAO Oboronservis (OJSC), Vasilyeva was charged with crimes under part 3 of article 159 of the RF Criminal Code (swindling on an especially large scale). According to investigators Vasilyeva with other persons is involved in stealing of property owned by affiliated enterprises of the holding company Oboronservis worth in total more than 360 million rubles.

The day before, as part of the investigation, the investigators of the Main Military Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee searched 18 cottages of health resort Podmoskovye of Federal Taxation Service where during a long time a number of officials of the Defense Ministry, including former Minister of Defense were living. The abovementioned houses in the interests of the Ministry of Defense during a number of years were rented by the company “Bezopasnost I Zvyaz” (Security and Communications), the founder of which was Alexander Yelkin. At present he is placed into custody as a pretrial restraining measure as part of investigation into stealing from OAO Slavyanka.
