A suspect of killing journalist Kazbek Gekkiyev identified

The North Caucasus Federal District Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee in cooperation with operative agents of Ministry of Internal Affairs and Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation have established a man suspected of killing television host of all-Russian state broadcasting company Kabardino-Balkaria Kazbek Gekkiyev.

During investigation it has been established that Zeitun Boziyev, born in 1982, a citizen of Nalchik is involved in the crime. According to investigators Boziyev is a member of an illegal armed group acting in Nalchik. According to preliminary data as a member of this group Boziyev has committed a number of crimes: on 14 November 2011 in Nalchik he participated in the murder of two district police officers, on 1 June 2012 – in the murder of Traffic Police inspector and on 29 July 2012 – in encroachment on lives of military servicemen of inner forces of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs and an employee of Chereksky district Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Kabardino-Balkaria. The ballistic expert examination has given the investigators a reason to think that Gekkiyev was killed from the same gun used to attack law enforcement agents. In this connection the criminal case over Gekkiyev’s murder is combined in a single law suit with the said criminal cases.

At present measures are being taken to find and detain Boziyev. Investigation is to be continued.
