Progress of criminal investigation into crash landing of Tupolev-204 in Vnukovo airport

Investigating bodies of the Moscow Interregional Transport Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee continue investigating a criminal case over a crash landing of Tupolev-204 containing signs of a crime under part 3 of article 263 of the RF Criminal Code (violation of rules for traffic safety and operation of an aircraft inflicted by negligence death of two or more people).

According to investigators, the Red Wings Tupolev-204 carried out a crash landing in Vnukovo airport. There were 8 crew members aboard, including employees of the airline company. 4 people were killed on the day of the accident and today, 30 December, one more female flight attendant died of severe injuries in the hospital, making the death toll reaching 5.

The bodies have been identified. Fuel samples and records of negotiations between the pilots and the airport flight control dispatchers have been seized. The seizure of documents from the airline company has been organized. The survived crew members will be questioned as soon as their condition is stable. At the moment investigators are examining the crash scene once more. In addition, the video of the accident made by a witness will be filed into the case.

We remind that the day before Chairman of the Investigative Committee held an operational meeting at the crash scene in Vnukovo airport, where an investigating group is now working. Mr. Bastrykin set tasks to examine the crash scene and collect the evidence. During the meeting further investigating operations were planned.

Criminologists of the Central Office of the Committee, who have experience in investigating air crashes, are involved in the examination of the scene. Investigators seized airborne recorders from the crash scene and handed them over to Interstate Aviation Committee for decoding. Investigations are considering all versions of the accident: pilot’s mistake, bad weather, technical failure of the aircraft.
