Progress of investigation into attack on Dagestani Supreme Court Judge

The Republic of Dagestan investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigating Committee continue investigating a criminal case over signs of crimes under articles 295 and 222 of the RF Criminal Code (Encroachment on the life of person participating in the administration of justice or conducting an inquest, illegal handling of firearms) – encroachment on judge of Supreme Court of Dagestan Magomed Magomedov.

According to investigators, on 15 January 2013, around 9 p.m. near building N 45 in Maxim Gorky Street in Makhachkala an unknown person shot no less than 5 times at Magomedov, born in 1957, who was approaching his car parked near the said building. The judge was killed on the spot. The assailant got escaped.

Investigators are considering several versions of the murder and the judge’s professional activity as a priority one.

Magomedov heard cases over serious and especially serious crimes, including terrorism and extremism and encroachment on the lives of law enforcement agents, this means – against members of illegal armed groups.

Investigators of the Dagestani Investigations Directorate and investigators-criminologists of the North Caucasus Federal District Main Investigations Directorate have examined the crime scene and seized 5 9 mm cartridge cases and 1 bullet of the said caliber.

At present urgent investigating operations are under way to establish all the circumstances of the crime and a person who committed the crime. Investigators are questioning witnesses, necessary expert examinations have been assigned.
