In Krasnodar Territory pre-investigating check underway into death of two in avalanche

On 23 March 2014 the law enforcement bodies of Adler district of the city of Sochi received a report about an avalanche on the middle section of Labirint ski run at Roza Khutor mountain resort. Two victims were reported. The Krasnodar Territory investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee are carrying out a pre-investigating check into the incident.

The two dead bodies were found during the examination of the incident scene. According to initial data the two victims had arrived in Sochi from Krymsk district, Krasnodar Territory in a group of 16 to go skiing. On 23 March the staff of the mountain resort allowed the run work until 1 PM, after that it was to be closed for service. At 12:45 PM the majority of the group were descending the slope and two of them were standing under the slope waiting for the rest. At that moment there was the avalanche. Six of the group were pushed from the slope, but did not suffer any injuries. However, the avalanche buried a 16-year-gil and a 45-year-old woman standing down the slope and they died.

At present the check is underway to find all the circumstances of the incident, including whether the staff of the ski resort carried out all necessary preventive operations. A procedural decision will be made following the check.
