Investigators requesting house arrest for Udaltsov

The Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee is filing a motion to the court requesting to put under house arrest Sergey Udaltsov, accused in the criminal case over mass riots and use of violence against representatives of the authority on Bolotnaya Square and over plotting mass riots in the Russian Federation (part 1 of article 30, part 1 of article 220 of the RF Criminal Code).

In October 2012 Udaltsov gave a written undertaking not to leave the place and behave properly. Now the bodies conducting preliminary investigation are asking to put him under house arrest.

The reason is that Udaltsov under the written undertaking not to leave the place, but regularly breaches it. Namely Udaltsov does not live for a long time in the residence where he registered and his mobile phones are often turned off which makes it hard for the investigators to summon him. Moreover, he does not tell investigators the address where he really lives.

In addition, Udaltsov after out under written undertaking not to leave the place and behave properly continues to commit wrongdoings, by which he breaches the undertaking. This way, on 27 October 2012 he participated in an unauthorized march and picketing for which got administrative punishment. Besides, on 15 December 2012, Udaltsov was detained by police during the opposition campaign in Ilyinsky Skver in Moscow and they talked to him about his behavior. On 13 January 2013, during the mass opposition campaign in Moscow he organized all kinds of provocations and called for the participants of the march to start unlimited protest actions.
