The investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee for the Republic of Dagestan have launched a criminal investigation in crimes under article 317 of the RF Penal Code (attempts on the life of law-enforcement officials or military men) and article 222 (illegal circulation of firearms) after an attack was carried out on the deputy head of State Traffic Safety Inspectorate for the city of Makhachkala.

According to investigators, about 7:20 AM, 8 August 2014, unidentified individuals driving a black VAZ Priora car in Akushinsky Prospekt in Makhachkala shot a submachine gun at the deputy head of State Traffic Safety Inspectorate for the city of Makhachkala. The officer died on the spot of his wounds. The attackers flee in unknown direction.

At present investigating and search operations are under way to find out all the circumstances of the crime and identify the eye-witnesses, as well as to identify and arrest the perpetrators. The investigation is ongoing.
