In Kamchatka Territory criminal investigation opened in air transportation safety breach

The investigating bodies of the Far Eastern Transport Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have opened a criminal case over a crime under part 1 of article 263 of the RF Penal Code (violation of safety standards for traffic and operation of air transport) after an incident involving a plane at the airport of Anadyr, Chukotka Autonomous Area.

According to investigators, on 5 February 2014, at 02:18 PM, a DHC-6 400 Series Twin Otter travelling from Bay of Cross to Anadyr overshot the runway while landing at the airport of Anadyr. According to the conclusion of the interregional air transportation department of the Federal Agency for Air Transport the cause of the incident was mistakes of the crew after landing causing considerable damage to the nose of the aircraft. According to calculations made by Chukotavia, state-owned airlines operating the plane, the repair cost about 130 million rubles.

At present, a number of investigative operations are under way to find out all the circumstances of the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
