Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee has finished investigating a criminal case against lawyer Alexey Navalny and CEO of OOO Vyatskaya Lesnaya Kompania (LLC) (Vyatka Timber Company) Pyotr Ofitserov. Alexey Navalny is charged with a crime under Part 3 of Article 33, Part 4 of Article 160 of the RF Criminal Code (organization of embezzlement on an especially large scale). Pyotr Ofitserov is charged with a crime under part 5 of article 33 and part 4 of article 160 of the RF Criminal Code (complicity in an especially large-scale embezzlement).

According to investigators, Navalny, as an Adviser to the Governor of the Kirov region, in collusion with the Director of the Vyatka Timber Company Pyotr Ofitserov and the Director General of Kirovles Vyacheslav Opalev, organized stealing of property of the Kirov Regional State Unitary Enterprise Kirovles. The investigators suggest that more than 10 thousand cubic meters of timber belonging Kirovles was stolen in the period from May to September 2009. Therefore, the budget of the Kirov region suffered damage amounting to more than 16 million rubles.

Today the criminal case has been forwarded to the prosecutor General’s Office for the indictment to be approved.
