Criminal proceedings launched against vice-governor of Novgorod Region and a number of officials in the area of road sector

Novgorod Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have opened a criminal case over illegal misappropriation of federal funds allocated for building roads, in amount no less than 35 million rubles, against a number of officials in the area of road sector of Novgorod Region administration, including two deputies (of Borovichsky and Chudovsky district councils) Anatoly Petrov and Nikolai Zakaldayev suspected of a crime under part 4 of article 159 of the RF Criminal Code (swindling by a group of people on an especially large scale).

This criminal case is filed into a single lawsuit with a criminal case launched earlier against first deputy governor of Novgorod Region Arnold Shalmuyev and deputy CEO of state institution Novgorodavtodor Georgy Vishnyakov and other unknown persons over signs of a crime under paragraph “c” of part 2 of article 179 of the RF Criminal Code, part 1 of article 286 (refusal to conclude a transaction under a threat to spread information which could cause considerable damage to rights and legal interests of the victim or their relatives, committed by a person taking a state position in the Russian Federation, exceeding official powers).

Investigating operations are underway to find all the circumstances of the crime. Investigation is ongoing.
