In Sverdlovsk Region former director of forestry charged with grand bribery and abuse of authority to appear in court

The Sverdlovsk Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have finished investigating a criminal case against a 53-year-old former director of state-controlled facility of Sverdlovsk Region – Ivdel Forestry. He is charged with crimes under paragraph “c” of part 5 of article 290 of the RF Penal Code (bribe taking on a large scale), part 6 of article 290 (bribe taking on a very large scale) and part 3 of article 285 (abuse of official authority entailing grave consequences).

According to investigators, between 2010 and 2013, while occupying the said position the accused committed three crimes of taking bribes through an intermediary. The accused received bribes for not taking measures in his authority to break the activity of legal entities which extracted sand-gravel in lands of Ivdel Forestry. In all, the accused received from unlicensed firms about 3 million rubles through an intermediary.

In addition, abuse of authority by the accused entailed grave consequences such as destruction of undergrowth and saplings, unauthorized removal and destruction of soils, as well as illegal use of forests for mineral field development. The director’s illegal actions caused the forestry loss of over 93 million rubles.

It should be noted that prosecution against intermediaries has been stopped under the laws of the Russian Federation as they reported their illegal actions of their own accord to law enforcement and actively cooperated with the investigators.

The investigators have gathered enough evidence, so the criminal case with the approved indictment has been sent to court to be tried on the merits.
