Alexander Bastrykin ordered detention and requested arrest of nurses suspected of brutal beating of children in Khabarovsk Territory

Russia’s Investigative Committee Chairman instructed the Head of the Investigation Directorate of the Investigative Committee in the Khabarovsk Territory to detain and request for the arrest of nurses suspected of brutal beating of children at a specialized children's orphanage.

As previously reported, April 1, 2013 in the evening, two nurses the orphanage decided to have a feast at the workplace. While they were drinking alcohol, a few inmates woke up and began to cry. As a result, they beat a 3-year-old boy and a 10-month-old girl. Another 7-month-old baby had his head wrapped in a blanket, was put in a plastic container and carried to the far corner of the room so that he did not annoy them with his crying. In the morning, the orphanage staff found numerous soft tissue injuries and bruises on children. They were taken to the hospital. The 7-month-old boy was most seriously injured. For a long time he was in a coma.

Upon learning of the criminal investigation, the nurses suspected of committing the violent crime, escaped from the authorities. After the criminal case was accepted by the Investigative Committee for proceedings, operational services have been immediately instructed to search for the suspects.

As part of investigation, a medical examination has been scheduled to determine the severity of the harm caused to children's health by nurses. According to examination results, investigators will decide on regarding the nurses’ actions as a more grave offense.

In addition, the investigators will give a legal assessment of the position and actions of the orphanage senior staff, which did not prevent the commitment of crimes against children, and then tried to cover up the fact from law enforcement agencies, reporting it only a week later.

The investigation of this criminal case has been taken by Alexander Bastrykin under his personal control.
