By order of Alexander Bastrykin nurses suspected of brutal beating of children in Khabarovsk Territory detained

Today, by order of the Russia’s Investigative Committee Chairman, nurses suspected of brutal beating of children at a specialized children's orphanage have been detained. Investigators have requested the court to take them into custody.

As previously reported, April 1, 2013 in the evening, two nurses the orphanage decided to have a feast at the workplace. While they were drinking alcohol, a few inmates woke up and began to cry. As a result, they beat a 3-year-old boy and a 10-month-old girl. Another 7-month-old baby had his head wrapped in a blanket, was put in a plastic container and carried to the far corner of the room so that he did not annoy them with his crying. In the morning, the orphanage staff found numerous soft tissue injuries and bruises on children. They were taken to the hospital. The 7-month-old boy was most seriously injured. For a long time he was in a coma. At present he is in the intensive care unit because his health has improved.

During the investigation, information was received that the actions of nurses also contain the elements of a crime under Paragraphs "d”, “e" of Part 2 of Article 117 of the Criminal Code (torture, that is, the infliction of physical or mental suffering by systematic beatings or other violent acts). As a result, the investigating authorities of the Investigative Committee of Russia in the Khabarovsk Territory have decided to institute another criminal case. Thus, nurses are suspected of committing crimes under Paragraphs "d”, “e" of Part 2 of Article 117 of the Criminal Code (torture), Part 1, Article 116 of the Criminal Code (assault) and Article 125 of the Criminal Code (leaving in danger).

In addition, the investigators will give a legal assessment of the position and actions of the orphanage senior staff, which did not prevent the commitment of crimes against children, and then tried to cover up the fact from law enforcement agencies, reporting it only a week later.

The investigation of this criminal case has been taken by Alexander Bastrykin under his personal control.
