Investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee in the Republic of Tatarstan have completed investigating a criminal case against 8 former police officers of Dalny police station.

They are a former deputy chief of the Criminal Investigation Department 25-year-old Almaz Vasilov, chief of the Criminal Investigation Department 31-year-old Ainur Rakhmatullin, head of the criminal police, deputy chief of police department 26-year-old Fail Sabirzyanov, detectives 25-year-old Ramil Akhmetzyanov, 24-year-old Ilnar Ibatullin, 29-year-old Amir Sharafullin, 28-year-old Alexander Fadeyev, and 23-year-old Denis Vasiliev.

The former police officers are charged with crimes under Article 286 of the Criminal Code (abuse of power). In addition Akhmetzyanov, Vasilov, Ibatullin and Sabirzyanov have been accused of committing crimes under Part 4 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code (causing grievous bodily harm resulting in the death of the victim). None of the former police officers admitted the guilt.

At the request of the investigator, seven of them were remanded in custody. Another one was released on his own recognizance not to leave town and behave properly.

In connection with the pre-trial agreement, in July 2012, the criminal case against two local inspectors Nigmatzyanov and Garifullin was separated. They were convicted under Part 1 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code and sentenced to imprisonment for a term of 2 years and 2 years and 6 months, respectively.

The criminal case against the former head of the Dalny police station 45-year-old Ilgiz Akhmetzyanov was separated due to his illness. Akhmetzyanov suffered two heart attacks and, according to the medical report, it will be impossible to conduct investigating actions with him during six months. As soon as his state of health has stabilized, the investigation will continue, the case against him will be completed in the manner prescribed by law.

Thus, the Investigative Committee managed to bring to justice all former employees of the Dalny police station, involved in numerous crimes committed against the citizens. In March 2012, a group of experienced investigators of the Central Office of the Investigative Committee of Russia and the Investigations Directorate of the Republic of Tatarstan was set up for this purpose. Private meetings with citizens were repeatedly held to receive messages and statements about illegal actions of police officers.

Investigators have collected enough evidence, therefore, the case has been sent for the indictment to be approved and further to the court to be tried on the merits.
