Conference of senior assistants of investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee on interaction with media opened in Krasnodar Territory

A two-day conference: “On improving forms of interaction between investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee and media and institutions of civil society in modern conditions” chaired by Mr. Vladimir Markin, head of Media Relations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee started working on 15 May 2013.

The conference is attended by leadership of Krasnodar Territory, head of territorial investigations directorate and media relations directorate, representatives of federal TV channels and senior assistants to heads of investigating bodies of the Investigative Committee on media relations.

Opening the conference Mr. Markin noted: “Today we have absolutely new missions of active and committed cooperation with institutions of civil society. All of us recognize the importance of public support in fighting crimes and providing criminal and penal protection of civil rights and freedoms. Our activity is closely watched by the public and this is only natural as we are always on the front line of main events in the country – such as terrorist attacks, natural disasters, mass riots, monstrous crimes against children.”

In his speech Mr. Markin stressed that “the dialogue with public representatives facilitates not only efficient participation of people in crime preventing and fighting programmes, but improves the performance of investigation, consolidates their authority in regions, builds in citizens clear ideas of high public importance of investigators’ activity. Today we have to join our efforts to reach common goals, provide immediate interaction between the Investigative Committee and society on the most vital and urgent matters of our work – battle against corruption, matters of international relations, taking measures on prevention and suppression of extremism and terrorism.”

Besides, Mr. Markin especially mentioned the possibility of new area of public relations through social media, pointing out that “active presence of the Investigative Committee in social networks has not only made the agency more mentioned, but allowed more rapid revealing of people’s reports on crimes and appeals to the leadership of the agency.”

Participants of the conference presented their reports on the matters concerning media coverage of the activity of investigating bodies and exchanged positive experience in media relations. During the conference the distinguished staffers of the Investigative Committee were awarded.
