Man suspected of killing chairman of government in Karachay-Cherkessia in 2004 held in Cherkessk

North Caucasian Federal District Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee has reopened a criminal investigation into 2004 murder of Ansar Tebuyev, the Chairman of Government in the Republic of Karachay-Cherkessia, containing signs of a crime under paragraph “g” of part 2 of article 105 of the RF Criminal Code (murder, committed by an organized group).

According to investigators, in the morning of 18 October 2004, unknown people opened fire at the Niva car with 52-year-old Tebuev and his driver inside at the crossing of Prvomayskaya and Kirova Street in Cherkessk. The official was badly wounded and died on the spot. The driver was not injured.

Investigating and search operations have been conducted for a long time and thanks to them on 30 May 2013 it was possible to hold a man, resident of Malokarachayevsky district of the republic, who was involved in the crime. During the questioning the suspect confessed to the crime and named organizers and perpetrators. It is known, that before that the suspect had been convicted of hijacking the car in which the murderers fled the crime scene in 2004.

At present investigating operations are underway to find all the accomplices in the crime and to consolidate the evidence. Investigation is continuing.
