Criminal investigation started in Moscow into negligence of police officers who did not stop man attacking their colleague

Moscow Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee has launched a criminal investigation against inspector of patrol and post service of office of the Russian Interior Ministry in Ochakovo-Matveyevskoye district in Moscow the police senior lieutenant Vladimir Cherezov and a police driver of the same office senior sergeant Yuri Lunkov. They are suspected of a crime under part 1 of article 293 of the RF Criminal Code (negligence).

On 27 July 2013, Cherezov and Lunkov were near the Matveyevsky market place during the detention of a crime detection officer suspected of a rape. When his relatives started to resist the police officers and then beat up the operative agent Kudryashov, his colleagues did nothing to stop this wrongdoing or to apprehend the attackers and deliver them to the police station. As a result Magomed Rasulov now accused of an especially grave crime fled the scene and Kudryashov was hospitalized with serious injuries.

In the near future Cherezov and Lunkov are going to be questioned over the circumstances of the crime. Investigating operations are underway to find all the circumstances of the crime, namely, investigation is going to find the reasons of their inaction.

I would like to voice the principal position of the Russia’s Investigative Committee once more: police officers or agents of other law enforcement bodies, who have broken the law, are prosecuted independent of their ranks or past merits, all the more if such officers failed to help their colleague let alone to protect citizens.
