In Moscow, gang members found guilty of committing murders for hire

The Court recognized the evidence collected by the Central Federal District Investigations Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation sufficient to convict the residents of the Moscow region - 28 -year-old Grigory Shevchenko and 22 -year-old Yurik Hasanov. Depending on the role, they were found guilty of offenses under Part 2 of Article 209 of the Criminal Code (participation in the gang), paragraphs "a, g, h" of Part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code (murder for hire), Part 3 of Article 30, Part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code (attempt to murder), Part 3 of Article 222 of the Criminal Code (illegal trafficking in weapons).

Investigators and the Court found that in 2005, Andrey Safronov formed the gang involving two friends of his: Dmitry Makarenko and Hasanov, and later, in 2009 - Shevchenko. Their involvement in carrying out attacks against five businessmen in Moscow and the Moscow region was established. As a result of criminal offenses, four out of five businessmen died. Hasanov participated in the commission of all the attacks, Shevchenko, among other gang members, participated in an attack on a businessman Solomon Gavrilov in 2009. The criminal case started with investigation into the killing of Solomon Gavrilov, but in the course of this investigation, other episodes of the gang’s criminal activity have been established. According to the distribution of roles, attacks on victims were carried by Makarenko and Hasanov, and in the latter case, Shevchenko followed the victim and signaled the performers to act. It was found that members of the gang watched the victim for a long time and used illegally acquired weapons and armor. The gang ceased to exist in December 2011 in connection with the detention of most of its members by law enforcement officials.

Makarenko, who had signed a pre-trial cooperation agreement, was found guilty of committing these crimes and sentenced to 17 years imprisonment in a penal colony.

For multiple offenses, the Court sentenced Hasanov to 25 years of imprisonment with the first 15 years to be served in prison, and the rest term - in a maximum security penal colony. Due to the fact that Shevchenko was on probation for past crimes, he received a cumulative sentence - 22 years of imprisonment in a maximum security penal colony. The Court also granted the victims' claims in excess of 5.5 million rubles.

The organizer of the gang Safronov, who was charged and remanded in custody in absentia, is put on the international wanted list. The alleged paymaster of Gavrilov’s assassin Yuri Izrailov is also on the international wanted list. Investigators are currently establishing the persons who ordered other murders committed by the gang, the investigation is ongoing.
