Volga Federal District Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s investigative Committee continues investigating a criminal case opened into explosions at fuel and energy complex facilities organized in 2004-2005 in the Republic of Bashkortostan, Samara, Ulyanovsk and Kirov Regions by members of a terrorist organization. A number of the members have already been sentenced to prison.

In June 2013, investigators charged Ilnur Akhmetshin, 35, another member of the terrorist organization with a series of acts of terrorism in different subjects of the Russian Federation, illegal carrying and storage of firearms, ammunition and explosives and other serious and especially serious crimes. He had been on the federal wanted list since 2006 and was detained in the Republic of Dagestan, when he was trying to cross the border of the Russian Federation illegally.

During the probe in September 2013 investigators found, that in late 2004 Akhmetshin planted a handicraft bomb under a bearing of a high voltage line on the outskirts of the village of Stary kalmash, Chekmagushevsky district in the Republic of Bashkortostan.

Officers of Volga Federal District Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s investigative Committee together with officers of Volga Federal District Main Office of the Russian Interior Ministry went to the place. They found the bomb, rendered it harmless and seized from the crime scene. This way the explosion of the high voltage line near the settlement was averted. Investigation is ongoing.
