Criminal investigation launched in death of woman and child in fire in Sverdlovsk Region

On 9 Ocotber, about 1:30 AM, the law enforcement bodies of Ivdel town district received a report that there was a fire in a detached house in Yelizarov Street in Ivdel. A 39-year-old woman owning the house and an 8-year-old boy were killed in the fire. It was reported earlier that 8 other children aged from 3 to 11 had managed to get out of the burning house and had been sent to the central town hospital for examination, which found that the children had been poisoned with carbon monoxide. 4 children are in the resuscitation department, the others are in satisfactory state. To find all the circumstances of the incident, the investigating bodies of the Sverdlovsk Region Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have launched a criminal investigation into signs of a crime under part 3 of article 109 of the RF Penal Code (infliction of death to two people through negligence).

At present investigating operations are under way to find all the circumstances of the incident. The investigators is assigning a number of necessary expert examinations, including forensic medical and fire ones, the witnesses are being questioned. The causes and the source of the fire are being identified. The investigation is ongoing.
