Tajikistan citizen accused of serial rapes in Sverdlovsk Region

The investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee in Sverdlovsk Region have charged a 23-year-old citizen of Tajikistan, who worked at a construction site in the city of Yekaterinburg, of two counts of a crime under part 1 of article 131 of the RF Penal Code (rape).

According to investigators the man committed the crimes in September and October 2013 in Ordzhonikidzevsky district. In the dark time of the day the accused waylaid women walking alone and then attacked them, using physical violence. For some time the investigators could not identify the man, but found him during investigation of another rape. Investigating operations were carried out at one of the construction sites in Yekaterinburg, from where over 150 citizens of the near abroad were delivered to the police station. All of them were photographed, finger-printed, and DNA samples were taken from each of them for the analyses, the investigators also checked them in criminal database. As the result of this work they found the accused involved in two rapes.

At present the investigators of the regional office of the Russia’s Investigative Committee are carrying out a number of investigating operations to find all the circumstances of the crimes, to gather and consolidate the evidence. The accused was placed into custody and is being checked on involvement in other similar crimes. The investigation is ongoing.

It should be noted that as a result of investigating and search operations carried out jointly with the Federal Migration Service, 5 citizens of foreign states, who had no legitimate grounds for staying in the Russian Federation, were banished from the country. In addition, 34 persons were cited for administrative violations.
