Verdict passed over Bolotnaya case

A court has found the evidence gathered by the Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee enough to convict Alexey Polikhovich, Alexandra Naumova (Dukhanina), Sergey Krivov, Stepan Zimin, Artyom Savelov, Denis Lutskevich, Andrey Barabanov and Yaroslav Belousov. Depending on the role of each one they were found guilty of crimes under part 2 of article 212 and part 1 of article 318 of the RF Penal Code (participation in mass riots and use of force against representatives of the authority).

The court and investigators have found that on May 6, 2012, on Bolotnaya Square in Moscow the convicts threw stones and pieces of asphalt at the police officers, who were providing security of public order during public events. They also broke through cordons and beat police officers.

As the evidence the investigators have a large number of videos of CCTV cameras showing facts of wrongdoings, results of questioning of more than 500 witnesses, many of whom recognized the attackers. There are 77 victims to the case, including police officers, civilians who came to the rally and 5 legal persons, who suffered damages worth over 28 million rubles.

The court sentenced Naumova (Dukhanina) to a suspended 3-year and 3-month prison term and a 3-year probation; Polikhovich to 3 years and 6 months, Zimin to 3 years and 6 months, Savelov to 2 years and 7 months, Lutskevich to 3 years and 6 months, Barabanov to 3 years and 7 months, Belousov to 2 years and 6 months, Krivov to 4 years in prison, all will serve their time in a minimum security penal colony.
