In St. Petersburg investigation finished in baby selling

Saint-Petersburg investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have finished investigating a criminal case against a 24-year-old citizen of Uzbekistan and her 50-year-old mother charged with a crime under paragraphs “b” and “h” of part 2 of article 127.1 of the RF Penal Code (human trafficking).

According to investigators, on 18 February 2014, the accused gave birth to a son in a maternity hospital in Saint-Petersburg. After that she and her mother decided to sell the baby, which fact became known to law enforcement agents. In the afternoon of 21 February 2014, near a house in Ordzhonikidze street the grandmother gave over the baby to a man, working acting within the operation, and received from him 80 thousand rubles. After that she was detained by agents of the Saint-Petersburg and Leningrad Region Office of the Russian Interior Ministry.

The investigators have gathered enough evidence, therefore the criminal case has been forwarded for the indictment to be approved and further to court to be tried on the merits.
