In Chuvash Republic anesthetist charged with reckless homicide to stand trial

The investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee in the Chuvash Republic have finished investigating a criminal case against an anesthesiologist of a hospital in Moscow district of the city of Cheboksary. She is charged with a crime under part 2 of article 109 of the RF Penal Code (reckless homicide due to improper discharge of professional duties).

According to investigators, on 14 May 2012, a 48-year-old local woman was delivered to the hospital in Moscow district of Cheboksary with a brain trauma. The woman was operated on the same day and after that was transferred to the anesthesiology and resuscitation department for further treatment supervised by the accused. About 12:50 PM, 15 May 2012, the anesthetist used a needle to catheterize the patient’s right subclavian vein, causing her by negligence a traumatic perforation of the right lateral part of pericardium and right lateral surface of ascending aorta. As a result the patient’s contractile heart function was damaged, which together with her close brain injury and chronicle CAD caused the patient’s death at 09:30 PM the same day.

The investigators have gathered enough evidence, therefore the criminal case with the approved indictment has been sent to court to be tried on the merits.
