In Moscow Region man charged with series of assaults on women to stand trial

The investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee for the Moscow Region have finished investigating a criminal case against 46-year-old Ukrainian national Sergey Onishkevich. He is charged with a series of robbery and rape-related assaults on women (part 1 of article 162 of the RF Penal Code – 6 counts, paragraph “c” of part 4 of article 162, part 3 of article 30, part 1 of article 131, part 1 and paragraph “b” of part 2 of article 131 and part 1 of article 111).

According to investigators, on 28 August 2012, about 5 AM a detail of patrol and post service found unconscious acting head of investigation department of the Moscow Region Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee with multiple injuries on Tchaikovsky street in the town of Stupino, Moscow Region. The investigators know that about 12:35 AM the woman walked out the investigation office and walked home. Onishkevich came across her on the street and attacked to rob her.

During the probe the investigators found out that Onishkevich had been involved in a number of similar crimes. It is reported that in all he attacked 6 women in Stupino. In all the cases the man acted similarly – attacked women walking home alone at night, beat them up till they passed away, and then robbed them. In addition, the investigators have evidence that Onishkevich raped several of his victims. Though the accused denies it, the fact is confirmed by the conclusion of a forensic DNA test.

The investigators have gathered enough evidence, therefore the criminal case with the approved indictment has been sent to court to be tried on the merits.
