Investigative Committee starts preliminary investigation in confiscation of children from Russian families in Norway

The Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee has launched a pre-investigating check into confiscation of children from Russian families in Norway. Today it has become known from mass media that the Norwegian Child Welfare Services took a 6-year-old girl away from Russian family, and not long before that a 5-year-old boy was confiscated from Russian parents who had come from Pskov Region to live in Norway. In each of the cases children were taken away under some ill-grounded pretexts and given to foster families.

During the check investigators are going to find out the circumstances in which rights of Russian children were grossly violated when they were obviously illegally passed to foster families and assess actions of officials that entailed considerable violation of rights and legal interests of Russian citizens. If any signs of crimes are found in the actions committed regarding Russian children, the Russia’s Investigative Committee will open a criminal case.

It should be noted that criminal procedure law of the Russian Federation enables us to prosecute foreign citizens in case they have committed a crime against citizens of the Russian Federation independent of the country, where the crime has been committed.

The Russia’s Investigative Committee pays close attention to investigating crimes against Russian children and intends by all legal means to restore and protect children’s rights.
