The North Caucasian Federal District Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee continues investigating a criminal case against gangsters headed by Georgian national Aslan Gagiyev, who have committed over 40 murders, attempts on the lives of law enforcement officials and attempted murders in the city of Moscow, Moscow Region and the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania.
Head of one of the gangs that were part of Gagiyev’s organization Oleg Dzarakhokhov has been detained in the city of Vladikavkaz as a result of joint efforts of the Russian Investigative Committee, operatives of the Ministry of the Interior for the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania.
According to investigators Dzarakhokhov organized and was directly involved in a crime unprecedented in its cynicism – shooting down people during funerals in June 2013 in the town of Beslan, North Ossetia-Alania, where two people were killed and another two wounded. In addition, members of his gang committed other serious and very serious crimes.
Three members of Dzarakhokhov’s gang had been detained earlier, while the leader was hiding from law enforcement until yesterday.
Besides, as a result of joint efforts of the Russian Investigative Committee, operatives of the Federal Security Service, Ministry of the Interior for the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania and Interpol, Montenegro competent bodies have detained a member of the gang who was internationally wanted, Ivan Bagayev, known among the gangsters as Tolik. Bagayev had a forged Ukrainian passport.
According to investigators, Bagayev supplied Gagiyev’s gang with firearms, ammunition, transport means, accoutrements, etc. He was immediately involved in: an attempt on the life of chief of crime detection department of the Russian Ministry of the Interior for the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania Vitaly Cheldiyev and murder of his son Zaurbek Cheldiyev in October 2008; murder of Vice Prime Minister of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania Kazbek Pagiyev and his driver Vladimir Gasiyev on 31 December 2008.
Due to the fact that Bagayev escaped from law enforcement officials and the information they had that he was hiding abroad, on 5 March 2009, a court ruled to place him on the international wanted list and prosecute him as the accused in absentia. In addition, Bagayev was remanded in custody in absentia. At present Bagayev’s extradition to the Russian Federation is under discussion.
It was hard to find and detain Bagayev because he had been hiding abroad for a long time using forged documents.
Over the last month this is the third person detained under this conspicuous investigation that resonated in the wider public.
The gang created and headed by Aslan Gagiyev started operating in 2004 and had over 46 members. By now some of the gangsters have been sentenced to long terms in prison. 15 people are in custody, 11 people are wanted.
At the current time necessary investigative operations are underway to find out all the circumstances of the crimes and prosecute the persons involved.
