In Arkhangelsk Region sentence passed on defendants in case of past murders of businessmen

A court has recognized the evidence gathered by Arkhangelsk Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee sufficient to convict based on the verdict of the jury Alexey Peunkov, Albert Tazeyev and Georgy Yevdakimov. Depending on their roles they were found guilty of crimes under paragraphs “a”, “f” and “g” of part 2 of article 105, part 3 of article 30, paragraphs “a”, “f” and “g” of part 2 of article 105, part 3 of article 222, part 4 of article 33, paragraph “h” of part 2 of article 105 of the RF Penal Code (murder, organization of murder of two people, attempted murder of three people, committed by a group in a previous conspiracy by a generally dangerous way, illegal purchase and transmission of firearms and ammunition).

It has been revealed that in June 2004, Alexey Peunkov organized a crime to kill a businessman and his bodyguards because of a business disagreement. He worked out a scheme, provided killers with special clothes, cars, firearms and information about the victims. On 23 July 2004, Pyotr larkin (killed himself in a pretrial detention center) and Valentin Zaborsky (missing since 2006) shot from submachine guns at the businessman’s car on the crossroads of Kirovskaya and Mostovaya streets in the city of Arkhangelsk. Bykov and one of his bodyguards were killed, the other bodyguard was badly wounded. Tazeyev was responsible for a good condition of guns and transported the armed hitmen to the scene and informed them when the victim moved to the ambush. Yevdokimov on another car took the hitmen away from the scene.

In February-March 2006, because of redivision of authority in logging business Peunkov inclined other people to kill another businessman for a fee of 300 thousand rubles. On 3 May 2006, in the morning in the yard of a house in Fyodor Abramov street in the city of Arkhangelsk the killer gunned down the car with the businessman and his business partner inside. One of them died at hospital of the wounds and another suffered grievous damage to his health. The killer and his accomplice (Vladimir Golitsyn, Alexey Orekhov and Kozhevnikov brothers) were sentenced to long terms in prison.

Peunkov did not admit his guilt either during the investigation or in court.

According to the jury Peunkov, Tazeyev and Yevdokimov did not deserve any lenience.

The court has sentenced Peunkov to 23 years, 5 of them to be served in prison, and the rest in a maximum-security penal colony, Yevdokimov – to 18 years and Tazeyev to 17 years in prison.
