In Yaroslavl Region investigation launched in negligence of officials who violated Great Patriotic War veteran’s housing rights

Yaroslavl Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have launched a criminal investigation in a crime under part 1 of article 293 of the RF Penal Code (negligence) following omission of officials of regional authorities in charge of allocating housing for veterans.

According to investigators, in July 2014, the territorial administration of Frunze district of Yaroslavl mayor office received an application form a 91-year-old veteran of the Great Patriotic War, who lived in a dangerous structure asking to recognize him a person in need of better living conditions. Despite the requirements of the federal legislation including the Order of the Russian President of 7 May 2008 “On providing veterans of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 with housing” the officials of Yaroslavl and Yaroslavl Region authorities have not taken any measures yet and the veteran still lives in an almost destroyed house with no toilet or other facilities.

At present investigative operations are underway to gather and consolidate the evidence and identify the guilty officials. The investigation is ongoing.
