In Kamchatka Territory investigation launched in death of child of a mound of snow and ice sliding from garage roof

The Kamchatka Territory investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have opened a criminal investigation in a crime under part 2 of article 109 of the RF Penal Code (reckless homicide due to improper discharge of duty) following a death of a child killed by a mound of snow and ice that slid from the roof of a garage owned by an affiliate of the Post of Russia.

According to investigators, on 8 March 2015, an 11-year-old boy and a friend of his were near the back wall of the garage owned by a transportation department of Federal Post Office of Kamchatka Territory in Karaginskaya street in the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. The roof of the garage was no cleared from the snow and ice. While playing the boy tried to knock down an hanging icicle by his feet and triggered a slide of the mound of snow and ice which pressed him down. The boy died of asphyxia resulted from lack of oxygen in a closed space.

At present a number of investigative operations are underway to find out all the circumstances of the incident. The investigators are identifying persons in charge of the said garage. The investigation is ongoing.
