Searches conducted in Crimea during investigation against head of regional office of Russian Federal Tax Service suspected of taking bribe on large scale

Crimean investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have launched a criminal case against Head of the Russian Federal Tax Service Office for Crimea Nikolai Kochanov. He is suspected of a crime under paragraph “b” of part 4 of article 291 of the RF Penal Code (giving bribe to an official for committing knowingly illegal actions and omission on a large scale).

According to investigators, in the afternoon of 29 June 2015, the suspect gave to an official of the Office of the Federal Security Service for Crimea and Sebastopol 300 thousand rubles for hiding crimes and other violations of law revealed at an enterprise and for general patronage.

Today the investigators have held searches in Kochanov’s residences and office and in his sin’s residence. They seized objects and documents vital for the investigation, including some money, a phone and a laptop computer.

The said crime was revealed thanks to cooperation of the officials of the regional office of the Federal Security Service and security service of the Federal Tax Service.

At present the suspect has been detained. The investigators are going to ask a court for a restraint. Investigative and search operations are underway to find out all the circumstances of the crime. The investigation is ongoing.
