In Moscow pre-investigating check launched against officials who took part in construction of collapsed barracks

The Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee continues preliminary investigation in collapse of military barracks in the village of Svetly, Omsk Region, that killed several solders. A court has ruled to remand in custody Chief of 242nd training center for airborne units Oleg Ponomaryov and CEO of Nizhny Novgorod firm OOO RemEksStroy Alexander Dorofeyev.

Besides investigative operations, the military investigators have launched a pre-investigating check against officials of the state-owned Main Special Construction Directorate for Siberian of the Federal Special Construction Agency and its subordinate organization Construction Office No 916, regional capital construction order department of the Central Military District – an affiliate of the Capital Construction Order Department of the Russian Defense Ministry and managers of RemEksStroy.

The said organizations were involved in preparation for and process of construction of the collapsed barracks. The investigators are going to find out whether actions of the said officials were in cause-and-effect relation with the tragedy, and look at the way the officials had spent the money allocated by the federal budget to the capital overhaul of the barracks.

A procedural decision will be made following the check.
