Official of Moscow Interior Ministry detained

Moscow Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee has launched a criminal investigation against a 34-year-old police operative of one of the department of investigative and search station of Moscow Interior Ministry Main Office, Major Andrey Khovyakov in a crime under part 2 of article 222 of the RF Penal Code (illegal purchase, selling, storage of firearms and ammunition).

According to investigators, in the period between May and June 2015, the police operative via his colleagues sold firearms and ammunitions, cold arms, that were stolen by unidentified people during investigative and search operations.

The officer’s wrongdoings were stopped thanks to joint operation of investigators and officers of the Internal Security Office of the Moscow Main Office of the Russian Ministtry of the interior.

Searches have been conducted today in the offices of the man’s colleagues and his superiors and their residences in order to find out if there were any other police officers involved.  

At present Andrey Khovyakov is detained under article 91 of the Russian Criminal Procedure Code and charges and restraint are expected soon. The investigation is ongoing.
