Court puts Oleg Belov under arrest

The Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee continues investigation in a mass murder in Nizhny Novgorod and a murder in Vladimir Region.

Today investigators have requested a court to put Oleg Belov in custody pending trial. During an on-site hearing in the hospital the court ruled to arrest Belov. He is charged with a crime under part 2 of article 105 of the RF Penal Code (murder of two or more people including a pregnant woman and children).

According to investigators, in the period between 25 July and 4 August 2015, Belov killed his six children, wife and mother. When being detained in Vladimir Region Belov fought back and was wounded. At present he is at the hospital.

Necessary forensic tests, including psychological and psychiatric were assigned to asses mental condition of the accused.

At the same time there is an ongoing investigation against Chief of district police station Alexander Volchak, his deputy Vyacheslav Nikitin, head of the division Viktor Miller and district police officers Vladimir Filimonov and Dmitry Oblivin. They are suspected of negligence as they failed to respond to Belov’s wife’s complaints about her husband’s beating and threats to kill. Criminal omission of the police officers made it possible for Belov to commit the crime.

The investigation is ongoing.
