The Moscow Region Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee has started an investigation against former prosecutor of the town of Elektrostal Nikolai Shipunov. He is suspected of a crime under part 2 of article 264 of the RF Penal Code (violation of traffic rules entailing grievous bodily harm to a person).

According to investigators, at night of 9 August 2015, prosecutor Shipunov was driving an off-road vehicle in Noginsk District, Moscow Region. Near a rail crossing he ran over a motorcyclist and his passenger, who were standing in the front of a line of vehicles waiting for the crossing to be opened. The motorcyclist was taken to a hospital with bad injuries. According to an expert, the motorcyclist suffered grievous damage to his health in the accident.

Results of a forensic medical examination showed some alcohol in prosecutor’s blood. The accident was caught on dash cams which were confiscated and are now being studied.

At present a set of investigative operations are underway. The investigation is ongoing.
