Another member of Aslan Gagiyev’s gang to stand trial in North Ossetia-Alania

The North Caucasus Federal District Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee has finished investigation against a member of Aslan Gagiyev’s criminal community Mairbek Kardanov. He is charged with crimes under part 2 of article 210 of the RF Penal Code (membership in a criminal community), part 2 of article 209 (banditry), article 317 (attempt on the life of a law0enforcement official), part 3 of article 30, paragraphs “g” and “h” of part 2 of article 105 (attempted murder), paragraphs “f”, “g” and “h” of part 2 of article 105 (murder), part 3 of article 222 (illegal circulation of firearms).

According to investigators, Kardanov joined the gang created by Gagyev in Moscow and North Ossetia-Alania in 2006. He took part in armed attacks, committed by members of the community, including members of gangs that were units of the community. The following crimes were committed by members of the gang involving Kardanov: attempted murder of Aslan Chelokhsayev in the city of Vladikavkaz in 2006; murder of Viktor Tuayev in the town of Beslan, North Ossetia-Alania; murder of chief of Irganized Crime Department of the Ministry of Interior for North Ossetia-Alania Mark Metsayev in the city of Vladikavkaz in 2008. In addition, Kardanov was involved in illegal circulation of firearms, ammunition, explosives and explosive devices.

The investigators have enough evidence, so the criminal case with the approved indictment has been sent to court to be tried on the merits.

The criminal organization set up and led by Aslan Gagiyev started operation in 2004 and had over 50 members. They committed over 48 crimes as a result of which 63 people were killed in Moscow, Moscow Region and North Ossetia-Alania including law-enforcement officers, officials of republican and city levels, businessmen and others. By the present time 9 members have been sentenced to long terms in prison and leader of one of the gangs Oleg Gagiyev to life in prison. 15 more persons are under arrest, the North Caucasus District Tribunal is hearing cases against 6 members, 9 others are on international and federal wanted lists, 3 of whom including Gagiyev and Artur Dzhioyev were apprehended abroad and are waiting to be extradited to Russia.

At present investigative operations are underway to find out all the circumstances of the crimes and arrest the guilty ones.
