Probe launched in death of child in Bashkortostan

In the afternoon of 4 September 2015, the police of the republic got a report that a dead body of a 12-year-old boy had been found near a shielding unit in the town of Meleuz. The investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee for Bashkortostan have launched a criminal investigation in a crime under part 2 of article 109 of the RF Penal Code (reckless homicide due to improper discharge of professional duty).

According to investigators, on 4 September 2015, in the evening a group of children were playing in an abandoned area near a timber factory in the town of Meleuz. Two boys were on the roof of the building near an open power shielding unit. One of them wanting to get down, stepped on the upper part of the unit and jumped down, but the 12-year-old boy used his hands to get down. He was struck by the current and threw on the ground. The girls called an ambulance, but medics could do nothing to save the boy. The boy had burns on both palms and a head injury. Presumably the boy died of a current rush.

At present, investigative and search operations are underway to find out all the circumstances of the incident and to identify people in charge of the safe operation of the unit. A forensic medical inquiry has been assigned to find out the cause of death. The investigation is ongoing.
