Probe launched in hydroplane crash in Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area-Yugra

The Ural Transport Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee has opened an investigation in a crime under part 3 of article 163 of the RF Penal Code (violation of rules for safety and operation of air transport, involving death of two or more people) after a hydroplane crash.

According to investigators, a light hydroplane Pelikan-2 owned by a 60-year-old resident of Khanty-Mansiysk crashed 27 km from the city of Khanty-Mansiysk on the northern extremity of Lake Mukhrino. There were 2 people aboard who were killed in the crash.

Investigators are looking into 3 main versions of the crash: violation of the flight operation and safety rules, bad weather and technical failure.

At present the investigators are examining the crash scene and carrying out other investigative operations to find out all the circumstances of the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
