Progress of investigation in Airbus A321 crash in Egypt

The Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee continues investigation in crimes under article 263 and 238 of the RF Penal Code after the Airbus A321 plane flight 9268 en route from Egypt to Saint Petersburg crashed in Egypt.

The investigators have confiscated maintenance documents of the Airbus A321 plane since the moment it had begun flying, flight coordination, certificates, printouts of the route Sharm el-Sheikh – saint Petersburg, passenger manifesto, copies of reports of a Cyprus air traffic controller on the disappearance of the jet from radars. The investigators continue gathering and confiscating documents on pre-route medical examination of the crew, as well as documents on purchase and use of parts and aggregates mounted on the plane. Using these, the investigators will be able to how correctly and thoroughly the plane and the crew had been prepared for the flight.

The investigators have questioned the staff of aeronautical support and plane maintenance divisions of OOO Kogalymavia Airlines, the crew that flown the crashed jet on 30 October 2015 from Samara to Sharm el-Sheikh. Fuel samples and other documents related to pre-route maintenance of the jet have been confiscated in Samara, the last place the jet had been fuelled. The fuel samples are going to be processed for evidence.

So far 146 people have been recognized victims and questioned, and DNA samples have been taken from each of them. The relatives of the killed are being looked for in 12 federal subjects of Russia. In addition, a lot of analytical work has been done to collect and process information on the killed in the crash. A database with distinctive features of the victims, their description and other information has been created together with the employees of the Russian Emergencies Ministry.

In Saint Petersburg, where the bodies are going to be delivered, the Investigative Committee together with expert agencies, state authorities, Emergencies Ministry, Ministry of the Interior and other services has developed an algorithm for efficient and quick expert inquiries, identification of bodies by their families and passing them for burial.

In addition, at the present moment a team of investigators and criminalists of the Central Office of the Russia’s Investigative Committee, in agreement with competent bodies and together with representatives of Egypt, in accordance with national and international laws, are examining the crash scene in Egypt where searches for the killed are still going on.

The Russia’s Investigative Committee is going to check all possible versions of the causes for the tragedy, including technical failure of the plane.
