Involvement of suspect in series of murders established in Novosibirsk Region

On 16 July 2015, dead body of a 31-year-old woman was found in Moshkovo District, Novosibirsk Region. The Novosibirsk Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee opened an investigation in a crime under part 1 of article 105 of the RF Penal Code (murder). The investigators assigned a DNA test of the victim’s clothes seized from the murder scene to get a DNA sample of a person who committed the crime and check it on the DNA database.

On 16 October, the investigating bodies received a report that a 28-year-old woman had gone missing in Kalininsky district of Novosibirsk. The investigators identified and detained a suspect. It is a 39-year-old local taxi driver, who had previous convictions.

Thanks to the DNA seized from the crime scene in Moshkovo District and following a DNA test that took a day, expert criminalists of the Novosibirsk Region Investigations Directorate managed to match the DNA of the murderer with that of the detained man. Considering the evidence and well-planned investigative and search operation the suspect confessed to the crime and to killing two more women.

The cruel crimes against women were solved thanks to coherent and professional work of all law-enforcement bodies of the region. The investigators and criminalists of the Investigative Committee did complicated and scrupulous work to establish that the suspect was involved in the series of murders. At present investigative operations are continued to find out all the details of the crimes and check if the suspect has been involved in other similar crimes. The investigation is controlled by the Central Office of the Investigations Directorate.
