Probes launched in Krasnoyarsk Territory over death of two following consuming sub-quality alcohol

The Krasnoyarsk Territory investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have opened two criminal investigations into crimes under paragraph “c” of part 2 of article 238 of the RF Penal Code (manufacture or selling of unsafe goods if it involves grievous bodily harm or death) following death of two residents of the city of Krasnoyarsk of poisoning by sub-quality alcohol.

On 19 November, 5 people with alcohol poisoning were taken to a hospital in Krasnoyarsk from Sverdlov district of the city. According to investigators, the day before that, the young men had drunk alcohol in a public sauna and felt unwell. One of the victims, a 26-year-old man died, the others are being treated and examined to find out the degree of the damage. The investigators found out that the diseased man had bought the alcohol via an unknown person in the Internet.

Another fact of alcohol poisoning was also registered in a similar situation. Four men had drunk alcohol at one their places in the city of Krasnoyarsk. On 21 November, all of them had been delivered to hospital with acute alcohol poisoning. A 39-year-old owner of the place died at the hospital. The men also had bought alcohol via Internet.

It should be noted that past weekend alone 7 more people with similar signs of alcohol poisoning were taken to hospitals in Krasnoyarsk from Oktyabr and Zheleznodorozhny districts of the city. The investigators are establishing the damage to their health.

At the present time, a set of investigative operations are underway to find out all the details of the incidents. During the probe, the investigators are going to find both producers and suppliers of counterfeit alcohol and buyers who have bought it and can be seriously harmed if they drink it. The investigations are ongoing.
