A court has recognized the evidence gathered by the Moscow Main Investigations Directorate sufficient to convict Viktoria Pavlenko, 37. She was found guilty of a crime under part 3 of article 158 of the RF Penal Code (grand theft).
The court and investigators have revealed that on 29 July 2015, Yulia Dyakova, a visually impaired person, together with her guide dog was walking near Profsoyuznaya metro station in Moscow. When Dyakova had felt a strong jerk of the leash, she started calling the dog, which did not react to her commands. Passers-by started gathering around the crying girl and told her that an unidentified woman had been seen with the dog near the metro. On 6 August 2015, the investigators gave the dog back to its owner.
The court sentenced Pavlenko to 1 year 6 months to be served in a minimum-security penal colony.
