Local resident in Sakhalin Region found guilty of animal cruelty

A court has recognized the evidence gathered by the Sakhalin Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee sufficient to convict a resident of Kuril District. He was found guilty of a cimre under part 1 of article 245 of the RF Penal Code (animal cruelty, entailing its injury, committed out of hooliganism).

According to investigators, on 14 August 2015, at about 11 PM, the man and his friend were near the village of Reydovo, Kurilsk District, Sakhalin Region riding a Mitsubishi Pajero SUV vehicle. On their way they met a brown bear. Aware that the animal was not threatening to them as they were inside the vehicle, the defendant motivated by hooliganism ran over the bear on the vehicle. Thenhe ran over the bear by the front and back wheels of the vehicle at least 5 times. As a result of the man’s criminal actions the bear suffered open wounds on the muzzle, cuts and wounds to the chest.

The court sentenced the man to 6 months of community work and 10% charges from his wages.
