In Dagestan two local residents found guilty of membership in gang and other felonies

A court has recognized the evidence gathered by the Dagestani investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee sufficient to convict two residents of Karabudakhkent District Magomedzhmil Lezhbedinov and Dagir Khakimov. They were found guilty of crimes under part 2 of article 208 of the RF Penal Code (membership in an illegal armed group), part 2 of article 209 (membership in a gang), article 317 (attempt on the life of a law-enforcement officer), part 3 of article 30, paragraphs “b”, “g”, “f” of part 2 of article 105 (attempted murder of a person connected with their official activity), part 1 of article 205.1 (coercion into membership in an illegal armed group), part 3 of article 222 (illegal circulation of firearms), part 3 of article 30, part 2 of article 167 and part 2 of article 167 (attempted and deliberate damage of another’s property).

The court and investigators have revealed that in 2009, one of the defendants joined an illegal armed group that acted in Karagudakhkent District of Dagestan and was headed by Ibragimkhalil Daudov. In 2010, he coerced one of his acquaintances to join the group and later the stable gang. The defendants supplied the gang with food, provided its members with housing, transported them in their vehicles and provided the gang with firearms and elements for explosive devices.

In November 2010, while being members of the gang, they took part in the attempt on the life of the head of the office of the Federal Security Service for Karabudakhkent District to prevent him from doing his duty of protecting public order and ensuring public security and to avenge him for his activity. The accused had bought components for a bomb, tracked down the law-enforcement officer and following Daudov’s order fixed the bomb on the bottom of the officer’s car. On 22 November 2010, at about 8 PM, in the village of Karabudakhkent, they set off the bomb when the head of the Federal Security Service office arrived at the office building. The officer was killed on the spot and his car was badly damaged.

The court sentenced Lezhbedinov to 25 years to be served in a maximum-security penal colony, Khakimov to 21 years to be served in a maximum-security penal colony.
