Six arrested in Krasnoyarsk on suspicion of selling adulterated alcohol

A court has ruled to place in custody six residents of Krasnoyarsk following the request of the Krasnoyarsk Territory investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee conducting an inquest in the death of people in the city of Krasnoyarsk poisoned by adulterated alcohol. All of them are suspected of crimes under paragraph “c” of part 2 of article 238 of the RF Penal Code (manufacture or selling of goods or products unsafe for life or health of consumers, if it involves grievous bodily harm or death).

According to preliminary version of investigators, five men aged between 22 and 33 sold adulterated alcohol in the Internet: they received orders and then delivered the alcohol to the addresses. Another one, the sixth of the suspects, is an organizer of wholesale supplies of the adulterated alcohol in Krasnoyarsk. Presumably he received large batches of counterfeit alcohol from Moscow Region and then sold smaller batches via a whole network of dealers, who in their turn sold it to people through the Internet. It should be noted that the presumed organizer of wholesale supplies gave himself up to the police.

At present, investigators are establishing the channels of supplies, they are also taking measures to identify and hold the producers of the fatal drinks.

Another batch of adulterated alcohol was confiscated today during a search: 43 boxes with bottles of Jack Daniel’s and another one with Bacardi. Over the past three days the investigators have confiscated over 500 boxes of different adulterated alcohol disguised under well-known labels.

The Krasnoyarsk Territory Main Investigations Directorate is investigating 8 cases over death of 9 people following poisoning by adulterated alcohol, and a pre-investigative check is underway into another death case. All of the victims were residents of the city of Krasnoyarsk: 6 men and 3 women. The investigation is ongoing.
