Probe launched in Orenburg Region in another case of heavy alcohol poisoning

The Orenburg Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have opened a criminal investigation in a crime under paragraph “c” of part 2 of article 238 of the RF Penal Code (manufacture or selling of goods or products unsafe for life or health of consumers, if it involves grievous bodily harm or death) following the delivery of a local woman, 37, to a hospital in a coma and diagnosed with heavy methanol poisoning.

According to investigators, on 24 November 2015, the victim and her acquaintance drank some liquid from a bottled labeled 1 l whisky. The next day the woman fell into a coma and was hospitalized. As of present time her condition is critical.

During urgent investigative and search operations investigators have identified and held a resident of the town of Novotroitsk, 26 years old, who illegally sold the alcohol to the victim’s acquaintance. His flat has been searched and investigators confiscated other bottles with alcohol, including the one identical to the one labeled whisky.

A similar case of alcohol poisoning happened earlier in the town of Gay, and ended in two deaths. The investigators detained two people on the said suspicions and confiscated over 27 thousand bottles of presumably adulterated alcohol. The investigation is ongoing.
