Investigative Committee Chairman appeals to Omsk Region qualification board of judges for consent to open probe against judge of Kuybyshev District Court

The Chairman of the Russia’s Investigative Committee has appealed to the Omsk Region qualification board of judges to get their consent to open a criminal investigation against a judge of Kuybyshev District Court of Omsk Sergey Moskalenko.

The bases for the appeal is the results of a pre-investigative check carried out by the Omsk Region investigations Directorate into illegal receipt of money by judge Moskalenko which is qualified as a crime under part 6 of article 290 of the RF Penal Code (bribery).

According to information investigators have, in the period between 2010 and 2015, judge Moskalenko while trying a criminal case against former head of OOO OmStroy-2001 Viktor Berg, personally got from the accused a bribe of cash and material services amounting to 8 million rubles for ruling to return the case to the prosecutor’s office and for delivering not-guilty verdict. As Berg’s dead body with signs of violent death was found in October 2015, judge Moskalenko closed the case against him due to his death.

If the qualification board satisfies the appeal, the Chairman of the Investigative Committee will order a criminal investigation to be started against Moskalenko.
