Moscow Regional Main Investigations Directorate awards medal to nine-year-old Rodion Kalinin for saving five-year-old girl

On December 19, 2018 officers of the Moscow Regional Main Investigations Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation solemnly awarded Rodion Kalinin, 9 years old, with the medal “Valour and Courage” for saving a five-year-old girl.

To remind, the incident happened on October 21, 2018: the staff of a spa centre neglected the safety rules, which resulted in the girl’s free and unsupervised going to an adult swimming pool deeper than her height, with no swimming skills. Noting the child under water, nine-year-old Rodion responded immediately - he dived, found the girl on the pool floor, motionless, and delivered her to the surface. The little hero’s parents helped him to pull the girl out of the water and provided her with the first aid, following which they referred her to an ambulance. The child was admitted to a hospital and discharged the same day, her condition well.

The Moscow Regional Main Investigations Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia works on a criminal inquiry into the rendering of services, which do not meet safety requirements.

The ceremony was attended by Deputy Chief of the Moscow Regional Main Investigations Directorate of the Investigative Committee Igor Doynikov; Acting Chief Investigator of Serpukhov Yevgeny Misharin; Deputy Chief Investigator of Serpukhov Vera Kharaeva; Director of the Protvino Municipal Budgetary Educational Institution “Gymnasium” Lidia Filonova; teachers; parents; and schoolchildren.

Prior to the ceremony, Igor Doynikov thanked the boy for his fearless feat on behalf of the staff of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation and noted that it was an act, which far from every adult could have performed. Following that, Rodion Kalinin was awarded with the medal “Valour and Courage” upon instruction of Chairman of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation Alexander Bastrykin.

Also on behalf of the staff of the Moscow Regional Main Investigations Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, Igor Doynikov thanked Rodion’s parents with a letter of gratitude for their excellent upbringing of their son who had shown valour and courage in a dangerous situation and made an adult decision to save the little girl.
