Chairman of Russian Investigative Committee meets Finland’s National Police Commissioner

Today, the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia had a working meeting with National Police Commissioner of the Republic of Finland Seppo Kolehmainen.

During the meeting, the chiefs of the agencies raised a whole number of mutually relevant important issues of the bilateral cooperation, summed up this year interaction, and outlined plans for joint work in 2019.

The parties also agreed to detail the draft of the Law Enforcement Cooperation Agreement between the Investigative Committee of Russia and the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Finland.

For instance, the chiefs of the agencies agreed that it was necessary to include in the bilateral Agreement detailed provisions about mutual exchange of competences, experience and information on crimes related to illegal migration, including illegal crossing of the borders of the two countries, tax evasion and corruption.

Moreover, the parties discussed opportunities of a teachers and students exchange, as well as educational experience exchange between the Academies of the Investigative Committee and the Police Academy of Finland.

The Finnish party also invited specialists of the Investigative Committee of Russia to take part in an expert seminar on combating terrorism threats hosted by the Central Criminal Investigation Police of Finland and relevant authorities of Sweden that would take place in the beginning of the next year. This subject is particularly pressing, given that during the recent years all three countries had to deal with activities of terrorists from the Central Asia and obtained significant experience of combating terrorism.

In his turn, the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia invited Seppo Kolehmainen to deliver lectures on combating crime in the Moscow and Saint Petersburg Academies of the Investigative Committee. The National Police Commissioner of the Republic of Finland accepted this invitation with gratitude and expressed his opinion on importance of upbringing of future generations of law enforcement professionals.

Following the meeting, Alexander Bastrykin and Seppo Kolehmainen wished each other a happy New Year and expressed mutual hope for future progressive and comprehensive development of the law enforcement cooperation between Russia and Finland.
